Beau and the Big Fall

Beau Sutton is, without question, the best soccer player in the Cooinda Creek Under Tens, and he never misses a chance to remind everyone of it. Self crowned "Beau the Unbeatable," he dismisses his little brother's attempts to learn the game, blames him for a backyard disaster involving the neighbour's prize garden gnome, and publicly humiliates a nervous new goalkeeper for a missed save.

It all comes crashing down in the final minutes of the biggest match of the season, when Beau tries a flashy trick instead of the simple shot his coach asked for, and loses his footing, his team's lead, and a fair bit of his own pride, all in one go.

With his mum's honest, gentle push, Beau discovers that real strength was never about being the loudest or the best. It's about valuing the people around him, sharing the credit, and being willing to admit when pride has cost more than it's worth: "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18) and "in humility value others above yourselves." (Philippians 2:3)
